The software design and IT support departments build tools for tasks that standard Petrel does not cover: automating repetitive operations, exchanging data between systems, storing and controlling data quality.

Scope of work

• Database development — Storage structures for well, geological and field data; quality and integrity control; access control; exports to computation packages.
• Petrel plug-ins on Ocean SDK — Extensions to Petrel’s interface and computation capabilities: automating a geologist’s routine operations, proprietary processing algorithms, import/export of client formats.
• Deployment, training, support — Installation and setup at workstations, training the client’s specialists, consulting and refinements based on feedback during operation.

How the work proceeds

• Input data and scoping — We review the specialists’ current workflow, identify bottlenecks and formulate requirements for the tool.
• Solution design — We describe the data structure, interface and algorithms, and agree on the set of functions and acceptance procedure.
• Development — We write the plug-in or database and test it on the client’s real datasets.
• Deployment and training — We install at workstations, train specialists, log feedback and make corrections.
• Support — We keep the tool working through Petrel updates and process changes, and refine its functionality.
